One such demonstration of its client-centricity at the operational level was a sugar mill factory that faced issues with the fuel used to generate steam. To investigate and resolve it, BARA’s experienced team of consultants conducted an in-depth technical evaluation of the incoming feedstock. The results showed that the feedstock’s poor quality caused the plant to consume much more fuel than optimal.

BARA helped the factory establish governance structures to monitor and control the quality of the feedstock. In addition, its team identified inefficiencies in boiler operations caused by outdated equipment and operator errors. After performing boiler efficiency testing, identifying losses, and working closely with operators by providing training and equipment recommendations, the factory saw a significant improvement in steam production, which eventually translated into cost savings.

The team, led by Botha, made this possible through his years of expertise in the power sector. Alongside him, his colleague and co-director, Cornelius Van Tonder, brings extensive experience across the power sector, utilities, and advanced thermochemical conversion systems. Together, they combine chemical engineering and practical mechanical engineering expertise to offer clients a holistic and integrated approach to technical consulting and operational planning.
